Cypress Stillness
“Cypress Stillness”
- Blue Cypress Lake, Vero Beach, Indian River County, Treasure Coast Florida -
The story and adventures behind capturing this image were once in a lifetime unforgettable experiences. I was traveling around Florida in an RV, seeking out all the beautiful photography locations and the Cypress Trees at Blue Cypress Lake were certainly a top priority. These trees grow straight out of the water hundreds of feet from the shoreline. They are only accessible by boat though! I didn’t have a boat on hand, but had an inflatable paddle board. My initial thought was to photograph the starry sky over the Cypress Trees, but after an all night excursion (with hundreds of glowing alligator eyes peering at me) the image I was desperately after didn’t come to fruition. Just before giving up and paddling back to camp, I noticed a faint light on the horizon… sunrise!? I decided to wait it out a while longer for sunrise and was rewarded with this stunning colorful scene to capture! I’m in 10 feet of water and my tripod is strategically balanced on a narrow tree stump. 1 minute long exposure which smooths out the sky and water. After the disappointment of failing to capture the original image I had in mind it sure felt wonderful to capture “Cypress Stillness” which I hadn’t even previously envisioned. Always good to be persistent, go with the flow, and give time to let unpredicted moments unfold right in front of your eyes.
